11 cool new startups to keep an eye on

Every day, new startups are emerging everywhere in the country. Once again, deutsche-startups.de presents a number of very young startups that have recently launched, ie in the past few weeks and months, as well as some young companies that have recently made headlines for the first time.

aifora

At aifora, founded by David Krings and Thomas Jesewski, everything revolves around “customer-centric merchandising”. The company offers a merchandising optimization platform that enables traders to improve and automate their processes, both online and offline. Customers include companies such as NKD, KIK, Reno and Peek & Cloppenburg. The competitors of the Düsseldorf based start-up are companies like JDA, Celect and Revionics. Capnamic Ventures has already invested 3 million euros in aifora. The service of aifora is to refinance via a subscription model.

For some years now, the fast-growing online retailers have made it increasingly difficult for retailers to stay competitive. This threatens the diversity of the offer in the long run. The solution is in the business model of online retailers like Amazon. The recipe for success is: intelligent use of data. We transferred the model to the retail market, adjusting it to create a cloud-based data sharing and AI platform where retailers share their data. Self-learning algorithms then evaluate this information in real time and use the data to make predictions about consumer buying behavior. Stocks and prices can thus be optimized within seconds, the underlying processes are automated and the retail industry can be profitable.

Prepmymeal

Behind Prepmymeal are Jonas Noyon and Kevin Schmid. “During our study together, we have recognized in ourselves and in society the problem that healthy eating in the hectic reality of everyday life is often impossible. We decided to solve this problem with our own idea” Noyon reports on the development of Prepmymeal. The startup offers its users healthy Mealprep dishes. “We would like to announce and establish the Trend Meal Prep from the USA in Germany. In a year’s time we will see ourselves as the leading provider of healthy ready meals in Germany” says Noyon. In doing so, Prepmymeal indirectly competes with heavyweights like HelloFresh or delivery services like Lieferando.

Who does not know it? The stomach growls again, but you do not have enough time to shop and cook something healthy yourself. Away you will find mostly only greasy fast food. So what do you do? We want to solve this problem with prepmymeal and positively change the way people feed themselves. We prepare healthy Mealprep dishes free of flavor enhancers or artificial additives – true to the motto: “The shorter and more understandable the list of ingredients, the better”. The dishes are shipped directly to the customer’s home or workplace throughout Germany, can be kept in the fridge for several days and can easily be warmed up in a microwave or pan. With our dishes we want to combine “taste” and “functionality” and help our customers to integrate healthy nutrition without stress into everyday life. We are characterized above all by the fact that the courts can also be individually compiled online. Here, the customer simply selects from a variety of individual components, what he would like and thus puts together his own individual court.

gapless

The Berlin startup Gapless, which is supported by Porsche (25%), positions itself as a “blockchain platform for special vehicles”. At the start, the start-up company, founded in 2018 by Jan Karnath, Malte Häusler and Andreas Joebges, offers digital exposés for vehicles. “Dealers can easily share the respective Exposé with interested car customers. Perspectively, we will also generate revenue through the provision of services” says co-founder Karnath. Internationally companies like VinChain or CarVertical rely on similar concepts. “Our goal is to have 12,000 vehicles on the platform in one year’s time. We are already generating our first sales, and this year we want to generate relevant sales in the 6-figure range. In perspective, we also want to offer our blockchain platform for watches, art and jewelry” says Karnath.

In the case of valuable cars, the original origin and history are crucial factors for maintaining value and increasing value. In many vehicles, however, the history is not busy, patchy or manipulated. Often the buyer does not know exactly what he buys. We solve the issue of uncertainty when buying through digital, verified vehicle histories via a maximum secure consortium blockchain platform. We focus on the vintage and premium segment of vehicles – so particularly valuable cars. In short: Together with our startup, we are building a “Digital Concierge” for collectors and dealers of vintage and premium vehicles. The platform, which is based on Blockchain technology, focuses on creating secure, verified vehicle histories.

onsuma

Onsuma enables online people to compare their grocery shopping with a few clicks at various online shops. The startup, which has already participated in Starbuzz, was founded by Angelo Canzaniello and Michael Haase. “Our business model is based on the successful placement of users. After all, we literally put the dealer in front of the cashier who is waiting to complete his purchase. We collect a commission for every successful placement” explains co-founder Canzaniello, explaining the concept behind the meta search engine. The onsuma makers, who currently reside in Nuremberg, have so far financed their startup completely through subsidies and own funds.

With onsuma, we have developed a Smart Shopping Assistant for grocery shopping that allows users to create, compare, optimize and order full shopping carts for weekly shopping. We support every user in the personal search for the right dealer. At the same time, the single purchase can be optimized across all distributors through our product alternative exchange. Thus, we not only help in the end time, but also to save money. While e-commerce and digitization has brought about massive changes in almost every industry, their importance in the food environment is still manageable. Nonetheless, this development is inevitable in the food sector as well. This is exactly where we start. We are firmly convinced that a smart and personalized support of purchasing preparation can help every user.

Tangany

Behind Tangany, which was founded by Martin Kreitmair, Christopher Zapf and Alexey Utin, hides a “Wallet as a Service”. “Our technology is an alternative to existing models like MetaMask. We believe that users or businesses should decide how to integrate Blockchain into their system. For this we create a simple and usable solution” promises co-founder Kreitmair.

Blockchain is still a very complex topic, especially companies are often perplexed how this can be used technically. We offer a ‘wallet as a service’ as a cloud solution. The associated API allows companies to develop complete blockchain applications. At the heart of the technology is the storage of ‘private keys’ – a kind of password for the Blockchain purses – in a secure HSM cloud infrastructure. Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) are the most secure technology for generating private keys and signing transactions in the cloud. On the one hand, companies do not have to redevelop many basic topics each time, and on the other hand we offer a comprehensive cloud solution. In addition, we are the only provider that can guarantee complete storage of all customer data on EU servers.

Adam

The Viennese startup Adam steps in to redefine controlling for small businesses and startups. “A real controlling-as-a-service offer does not yet exist. In the indirect competitive field, there are very different groups – from tax consultants to accounting systems to business intelligence companies. The most prominent of these are the tax consultants, although we do not see them as competitors. Rather, for us, potential cooperation partners are for comprehensive business management support for small businesses and start-ups” says Christian Löw, who founded the Satrtup together with Bernhard Frühlinger and Christoph Haselmann. The business model of the Satrtup works after a simple monthly subscription service with three package sizes.

Entrepreneurs have big goals, but in hectic everyday life they often have to be neglected. The entrepreneurial damage caused by this is great; the lack of planning and target control leads to delayed reactions to the need for action and unused opportunities. With Adam we make it easier for the company management to deal with the most important key figures for their company and at the same time give them more security for decisions in a regular exchange with their personal Adam sparring partner. We relieve our customers of the tedious work of data preparation and pre-analysis and, as controlling experts, provide them with decision-support so that they have the time and security to design their company. Such a service was previously reserved only for large companies, because small businesses and startups often do not have the means and the know-how for their own internal controlling structures. With Adam, we make controlling accessible to every company and, above all, affordable.

How I Like

The Oranienburg startup How I Like brings the “fridge as a healthy canteen” into play. “We set up the refrigerator with our customers, give the employees on-boarding,

Refill the refrigerator regularly and as needed, and are available 24 hours for maintenance and technical support. The companies pay between 99 and 199 euros net per month as a service fee” says Sven Forgber, who runs the startup company together with Martin Michenfelder, describing the concept behind How I Like. In the future, employees at the respective location should even be able to decide directly via app which products are available in the snack vending machine. In addition to offices, young entrepreneurs are also considering co-working spaces, hotels and universities.

What problem do you want to solve with How I Like?

Our approach to How I Like is simple: we are creating a new point of sale in offices by creating smart refrigerators with a versatile product portfolio. The principle is similar to a vending machine, only much easier. With just one hand you have access to the desired product. The refrigerator automatically detects the removal and handles the payment conveniently and cashlessly via the user’s account. Our system also provides manufacturers with the opportunity to influence and drive product innovation. The impulse generator for each of our products and their improvement is and remains the consumer. The decision made by the consumers on our refrigerator door gives us the opportunity for targeted analytics – a valuable process that enables both companies and consumers to interact directly / indirectly, and has the greatest impact on the advancement and improvement of individual products. The voice of the customer is thus immediately perceived by How I Like.

krankenhaus.de

The Berlin startup krankenhaus.de, which was founded by Balthasar von Hohenthal and Lukas Weiss, is positioning itself as a booking service for hospitals. “Our primary goal is to drive digitalization in the healthcare industry. That’s why we now give patients digital access to the hospital for free. What many do not know: in Germany there is free hospital choice. So I do not have to go to the hospital, which my doctor prescribes to me, but can make this important decision consciously. We help searchers make that decision through official quality reports and experiences shared by former patients. In this way, we help our users find the right clinic for themselves and request stays” says co-founder of Hohenthal.

Which problem do you want to solve with krankenhaus.de?

Every day, 30,000 patients have to plan their stay in the hospital. Collected, reliable information about the quality of the clinics are hard to find, the analog contact costs time and nerves. Additional and comfort services are rarely available. Krankenhaus.de supports the patient on his way to the clinic. The patient has incomplete information about the quality of the treatments in the clinics. However, there can be considerable differences, especially with complex interventions. Some hospitals specialize in certain treatments and procedures and have high numbers of cases per year. Such and much more information is provided by Krankenhaus.de on an intuitive page and clearly arranged for the patients. This allows patients to compare different hospitals and select the best for themselves. The numbers and facts takes Krankenhaus.de the official quality reports, which provide the hospitals to the joint Federal Committee. They are thus 100% reliable. In addition, subjective reviews and reviews of other patients provide an additional decision criterion.

Lytt

With Lytt, Marvin Homburg and Lara from Petersdorff-Campen, a digital assistant designed to help employees report misconduct, concerns and feedback, have come to life. The business model of the startup company is based on a SaaS solution with related consulting services. “This means that our customers receive the communication platform on the one hand, through which concerns can be reported and clarified, and on the other hand, our team of experts, which supports them in handling the incidents” says founder Homburg. So far, the Münster Lytt have supported from their own resources and an EXIST promotion.

What problem do you want to solve with Lytt?

We founded Lytt because we help organizations to deal more responsibly with issues such as harassment, discrimination and bullying. In most companies, these issues are still taboo. Yet the problems are omnipresent: in the last year alone, one in five employees experienced discrimination or bullying in the workplace, and more than half of all incidents were not communicated for fear of discrimination. This is how Lytt’s vision came about: giving each worker a voice to report concerns without fear of discrimination. Because, if there is no talk of discrimination, then the satisfaction of the employees suffers and the working atmosphere worsens. Last but not least, this results in lower productivity, higher sick days and increased turnover. With Lytt, we provide organizations with an anonymous and secure means of communication through which employees can communicate concerns to a chosen trusted person and receive help in a protected dialogue.

Aristander

The young startup Aristander, which deals with “Deep Learning for Pricing”, was founded by Arne Reichelt and Will Angell. “AristanderAI makes price optimization with machine learning a plug-and-play solution for existing shop systems. The approach developed by us in-house is based entirely on the latest findings in the field of deep learning” say the Berlin. After a 30-day trial period, Aristander will pay a monthly fee. “We also offer an individually calculated enterprise solution. Choosing the right package is all about how many orders a shop generates per month. So the total costs are very transparent and easy to understand” says co-founder Reichelt.

What problem do you want to solve with AristanderAI?

AristanderAI makes online stores more profitable through better product prices. Better prices means that both the absolute return in the entire shop increases and the percentage gross profit per single order. AristanderAI makes shopping carts more profitable. The constant price optimization is done intelligently on a detailed customer customer journey analysis. Ie. The shop owner does not have to compare competitor prices or make prices dependent on the traffic source. With AristanderAI, we want to make the topic of pricing products in e-commerce both more efficient and more effective, as well as automate. With the help of our SaaS platform, we give every medium-sized enterprise and even smaller shops the possibility to use cutting-edge AI technologies. This is Deep Learning. Methods that also Amazon, Walmart and Co., so the really big e-commerce brands, today make their pricing strategies more effective. Our customers do not have to be familiar with pricing strategies to get more from their store. That makes the solution so attractive. The total cost of ownership should be as low as possible.

Study Smarter

The Munich-based startup StudySmarter focuses as a learning platform for digitizing the exam preparation on the lucrative target group students. The start-up company was founded by Simon Hohentanner, Maurice Kudhir, Christian Felgenhauer and Till Söhlemann, creates automated learning materials such as mind-maps for lecture scripts, connects students in learning groups and offers a toolbox for digital learning. StudySmarter should always be available free of charge to all students. “First and foremost, we finance students by finding relevant internships and entry opportunities based on their learning content and career preferences”  says co-founder Felgenhauer.

What problem do you want to solve with StudySmarter?

Every year, more than 100,000 students graduate in Germany – more than a quarter of all students. Most crashes are due to learning problems. Students often feel left alone in the exam phase and do not know how to properly prepare for exams. We would like to solve this problem with StudySmarter. Our intelligent learning platform supports you throughout your studies. The learning contents are uploaded online and via the app and automatically processed, learning groups formed and individual feedback given. Through interactive courses with mind maps, index cards and quizzes we increase learning motivation and efficiency. For our idea we were honored in 2018 as the best EdTech startup and won the European Youth Award.
