Amazon, a step ahead in AI: presenting Scout, its first delivery robot

This week, the Amazon online store began Amazon Scout field trials: six six-wheeled robots that will deliver purchases to residents of Snohomish County in Washington. This is reported by the company’s blog.

About Amazon Scout

For several years, Amazon has been working on the automation of different stages of the delivery of its products. Now you will start testing your messenger robot. Amazon Scout has been manufactured in the form of a trolley with a space for goods inside. It was developed by a subdivision of the company in Seattle.

Still, not many details

For now there are no technical details, but you can see that the robot easily avoids all obstacles on the sidewalk (for example, people and animals), so it can be assumed that artificial vision is the basis of your navigation technology .

At the moment, only six robots will work to deliver products to customers on weekdays. The Scout will follow independently the route established for the delivery, but the company clarified that the first time will be accompanied by an Amazon employee.

Recently, the Cleveron company has unveiled an unmanned delivery truck equipped with a robot-arm. This device can place the package independently in an automated box from which the customer can pick it up, reports a company press release.
