Will your startup benefit with BayBG?

The BayBG annual balance sheet reports a record for new investments in the 2017/18 financial year. The investor invested a total of 52.3 million euros in 75 companies. In summary, the company’s shareholding amounts to 307 million euros.

About BayBG and the fintech world

BayBG (Bayerische Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH) invested more than 52 million euros in the past financial year and invested so much more than ever before. The investor focuses on financing expansion projects of medium-sized companies, for example, if they expand their capacities, introduce new products or open up foreign markets. Here, the financier almost doubled his new commitments to a volume of 31 million euros compared to the previous year.

“BayBG can look back on a successful business year”, Peter Pauli, spokesman for the BayBG management, summed up the result.

BayBG’s annual results show that startups benefit

But also young tech companies are profiting: Investments in startups continue to develop positively. Following new investments totaling 10 million euros, the investment portfolio in this area amounts to just under 50 million euros. BayBG now has more than 30 startups in its venture capital portfolio.

In addition to new investments, successful exits shaped the financial year. For example, NFON AG, a specialist in cloud telephony, which has been accompanying BayBG since 2008, went public in May 2018. Overall, BayBG reported a net profit of € 4.4 million in its annual balance sheet (previous year: € 6.1 million). The almost 500 BayBG participants employ around 50,000 people and realize more than 10 billion euros.

Future: Strengthens participation in startups with digital business models

The first months of the new fiscal year have also developed well, according to BayBG. The lender expects new investments of around € 47 million for the current year, according to Pauli. In future, the company will focus more on companies that implement digitization measures. According to BayBG spokesman, this concerns both the financing of established small and medium-sized enterprises, which implements digital technologies, as well as participation in startups with digital business models.
