Slovenia still handles a large part of its payments in cash. This should change now, at least when it comes to Wirecard. The German payment processor announced on Monday that users of the mobile wallet app mBills of the Slovenian Fintech company of the same name will be offered Garmin Pay as a further payment option.
This is not only intended to give mBills customers more freedom to choose digital payments, but also to make them more user friendly, emphasized Wirecard. The company mBills is majority owned by the Slovenian retail and energy retailer Petrol, which generates annual sales of approximately 5.4 billion euros. According to Wirecard, the company is the first Fintech from Slovenia to make payments with Garmin Wearables. Garmin is a Swiss based manufacturer of navigation devices. Which for some years now also offers smart watches, including Garmin Pay, a contact less payment feature.

According to mBills director Primož Zupan, connecting mBills app to Garmin Pay, they are able to offer their customers an even wider array of devices to pay with, giving them more flexibility and freedom. Wirecard’s proven expertise in mobile payments, not only via smartphone but also with wearables. It was instrumental in the market launch of this new payment option.
Wirecard manager Boris Bongartz added, “Mobile payments are becoming increasingly popular around the world for their ease of use and flexibility. By making it possible to add digital mBills cards to Garmin Pay, consumers do not need to carry a wallet or a smartphone. So, we are driving the adoption of digital payment solutions and making it easier for Slovenian consumers to pay on the go.”
