Food logistics startup gets 10 million euros

The Danish shipping company Maersk and VC Alstin II invest in the Berlin start-up. The money will be used to drive expansion abroad.

Fresh capital for Fliit: The Berlin-based food logistics start-up has collected ten million euros as part of a Series A financing round. The lenders are Maersk Growth, the investment fund of the Danish container ship freight company A.P. Møller – Mærsk A / S, and the Munich-based venture capital fund Alstin II, which was launched by Carsten Maschmeyer. Previous investors such as Berlin Technologie Holding are also participating again.

The money will be used to further develop the digital platform. In addition, the company wants to expand abroad, said founder and CEO Flavio Alario on request of WirtschaftsWoche founder: “The focus is mainly on the markets in France, Italy, Spain, the Benelux countries and the UK.” Also, the hiring of new employees is planned: The current 40-strong team is to be increased by 30 employees by the end of the year, so Alario.

Networking of producers and traders

“Fliit’s revolutionary approach of combining complex technology with existing resources has convinced us. This makes it possible to deliver fresh goods even faster and to reliably maintain the cold chain. Fliit thus creates a completely new kind of logistics! We are also enthusiastic about the founding team “, explained Carsten Maschmeyer his interest in the start-up.

Fliit was founded in 2016 by Flavio Alario, Nils Hempel and Jan Hoberg. Alario and Hempel have experience in logistics, both working for DHL for several years. “Back then, I saw how little food logistics was professionalized and wanted to change that,” says Alario.

The start-up networks producers and traders from the food industry with transport companies. Transports and orders can be tracked and controlled via the platform. According to the company’s own data, Fliit works together with more than 200 transport partners to cover deliveries in all parts of Germany as well as in neighboring countries. The start-up’s customers include MSG Fruit, L’Osteria, Rewe, Landgard, and Hello Fresh.
