Apple swallows AI startup laserlike

The AI startup Laserlike has now been acquired by Apple, recently reported 9to5mac based on “The Information” and is a company founded by three former Google engineers.

The company has developed a search engine that allows users to more easily follow news in a variety of subject areas.

Acceptance confirmed

Apple confirmed the acquisition with the two sentences that one would buy again and again smaller companies from the IT industry. To the targets which are pursued with Laserlikes technology, the California concern remained silent. In its four-year history since it was founded in 2015, the startup has raised some $ 25 million in venture capital.

Laserlike offered a search engine that ran on Apple iOS and Google Android as an app. Users got search results sorted by topic. For important news, the users were informed about their desired topics.

Laserlike team at Apple

In the meantime, the Laserlike team works for the AI and machine learning industries at Apple, wrote “The Information” in its report. Head of the AI department is John Giannandrea, who was responsible for Google’s search business.

Apple’s search results continue to be based on Google, with the company receiving billions annually. With Laserlike technology, Apple could improve its search results, which could benefit users. Google and the iPhone maker have been working together for quite some time, which is often criticized for their privacy.
