Is There Any API To Get Avianca Flight Data?

Read this article to know more about Airline Alliances and Flight Data API s.

Avianca, founded in 1919, is the national airline of Colombia. Its beginnings were under the name of “Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transportes Aéreos”, created by Germans and Colombians, the first flight was to transport letters from Barranquilla. The first aircraft were monoplanes that had many difficulties and constant emergency landings, however, by 1992 a regular service was established that became the Colombian mail.

As time went by, better aircraft were acquired that allowed regional and international operations, and by 1940 Aerovías Nacionales de Colombia was constituted, due to the merger with Servicio Aero Colombiano. Soon international routes were established to important destinations such as Quito, Lima, and Panama, as well as destinations in the USA such as Miami and New York. The airline continued its expansion and establishment within the region, establishing strategic alliances and acquiring new and important aircraft.

Strategic alliances in the aviation industry are more common than we realize. These alliances are what allow for a much broader international service. So it is not necessary to be an airline with a global presence on all continents to be able to provide international service, but through these agreements, combined routes are created between the different companies, allowing to offer passengers better services at a better price.

For the companies, these alliances are key to expanding their presence and reaching new markets. They are also key to the organization of flights globally. Airlines and airports have tools that allow them to access information in real-time, called Flight Data APIs. These, for example, hold all the IATA and ICAO codes, identification codes for every airline and airport in the world.

APIs? What Are They And How Do They Work

APIs are digital tools, or rather, interfaces. Interfaces create a network that interconnects different sources of information. They are a kind of digital library, a code that when incorporated into a platform or website, allows to also incorporate a series of information coming from another source. Some examples: Book API, which contains information about books could be used for bookstores, or title and author query sites.

Flight Data APIs provide information on the hundreds of airlines and thousands of flights that occur every day. Now, not all APIs are the same. They do not all have the same databases. There may be some that contain information only about one continent. This is why it is important when choosing an API for your business to pay attention to the qualities of each one. We were struck by FlightLabs, for example, which has global coverage.
